Lois Lowry's The Giver was an interesting read that had me craving more. In a world of no choices and overprotection, a boy named Jonas learns the truth about life. As he delves deeper into the secrets of his world, he cannot stand by and do nothing.
Jonas was living a painless, carefree life until he became a Twelve. He was chosen to become the next Receiver in his community, and he faced countless hardships with his new responsibility that was bestowed upon him. When he begins his training, he meets another one of the main characters known as The Giver. This mysterious man teaches him the truth about life as he gives him memories of the past. Over time, Jonas and The Giver form a very interesting relationship.
The setting of The Giver is very intriguing. As i read this story, I learned that the people live in a black and white world that is controlled bay a council. The world was converted to Sameness in hopes at a safer, pain free utopia. With no music, animals, or weather change, the people are stripped form countless memories.
The Giver was one of my favorite books that I have read in a while, and I highly recommend reading this book. I am eager to read the two companions that follow this story.

Animal Farm
George Orwell’s Animal Farm was an exciting tale form beginning to end. Not only did I enjoy reading this novel, I also learned a lot about the Russian Revolution, since the book was an allegory.
In this story, the farm animals are sick of working hard and not being rewarded, so they start a rebellion and take over the farm. They decide to run the farm by themselves, and for a while they are all happy. Over the course of time, the pigs take over the farm and constantly lie to the more naïve animals.
Two of the main characters in Animal Farm are Snowball and Napoleon, two boars. In the beginning, they both rule the animals together, but due to constant bickering, one triumphs over the other. The winner becomes dictator and a liar. Snowball is a more vocal pig, while Napoleon is more laid back. They both played intricate parts in this make-believe story.
I would highly recommend reading this book for two reasons. Animal Farm taught me about Communism, and the book was very enjoyable to read.

Favorite Techie Tool
My favorite techie tool that I use in school is our class blog in my English class. The class blog we use helps me in school and out of school. I can also access the blog whenever I need to.
On my down time when I am using a computer in the lab, I often pull up our class blog to see what is going to happen in class the next week to better prepare myself for the following days.
If I were to miss a day of school, or I was gone on a trip, I could use the class blog to find out what I missed. This technology is a very valuable tool.

I Know What You Did Last Summer
Lois Duncan’s I Know What You Did Last Summer was a nonstop thrill ride. From the first chapter to the last, I was captivated by the chilling story involving a group of teens who accidentally killed a boy.
This book was about four teens that were partying one night and hit a young boy. They were drinking and decided to keep the whole incident a secret, until they begin to get threatening messages form an anonymous person. They went their separate ways after the accident, but now they must unite to solve the mystery as to who knows their secret.
Two of the main characters in this story were Julie James and Ray Bronson. They were a couple before the accident, but Julie could not bear the guilt, so they broke up. She tried to move on with her life, until the note came. Ray decided to move away, but the pain of that night never left him.
I would recommend reading I Know What You Did Last Summer if you enjoy reading scary novels. I also noticed this book was a lot more different than the movie.

Spring Break '09
This year, my spring break was fairly uneventful. I spent most of my afternoons playing wiffleball with my friends and my nights waiting tables at work. Although my break was relaxing, I wish it was less boring. Due to my work schedule, I did not get to attend all of the varsity baseball games, which was not cool. My favorite thing I got to do over Spring Break was sleep in every morning. Waking up at around 9:30 a.m. was the perfect way to start my day.
One of the most evenful memories i had over break was one of the customers I waited on last Saturday night. She was very rude and disrespectful for no reason. Now that I think about it, I think it was pretty funny, but it was not at the time. The woman that she was eating with laughed about how rude she was, but that woman was fairly nice. I did not understand why she was with her, but I do not really care. Other than that girl, I had a pretty nice Spring Break.

Anthem Essay Excerpt
Life and death. In Ayn Rand's Anthem, the people tend to die at an early unnatural age. Many things account for why this happens. I have three assumptions as to why. Here is an excerpt from my essay explaining why this phenomenon occurred.
In Anthem, lifestyle had a lot to do with the early deaths of the people too. The citizens in Equality 7-2521’s world had no free will, and they never got to make their own choices. From birth, every choice was made for them. They lacked individuality and uniqueness. From their dress to their habits, they were all the same. When they were of age, their jobs were chosen for them, and what they ate was cooked for them without any input by them. Everyday was the same as the previous, making life dull and not worth living. Nothing changed form day to day, and the little recreation they were given a day was also, like everything else, chosen for them. Another choice that was stripped from them was their living quarters. The Street Sweepers all lived in a large house together with dull white walls. Without independence, one could only survive so long.
